Students are starting reproductions of paintings to develop skills in proportion, placement, scale, color mixing, technique and craftsmanship.

11/28 Sketchbook Homework

Monday - students must complete two drawings of mugs or glassware, detailed and shaded, in pencil. Should show highlight, middle values, and shadows.

Wednesday - students will be given a sheet to fill out on their artist for their research paper.

These are due Friday 12/2/2011.

Monday - students will choose two fonts, and must write the phrase "the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" (this sentence uses all letters of the alphabet) in both fonts.
Wednesday - free drawing assignment, object(s) of choice. Enjoy!

11/7/2011 Homework Assignment

Students are to branch off of their artist research, and narrow down to one name of an artist they would like to further investigate. Students should come to class Thursday with:
1. artist name, year of birth and death of applicable, country they are from, movement they are associated with, and the names of two famous pieces of art created by them.
This will become a framework for a research assignment.
Due Thursday 11/10/2011.

10/31 Sketchbook Homework

Monday -
Students should assemble a small still life at home, at least three objects but not more than five, and draw them. Emphasis is on proportion of objects to each other and value (shading) of objects. Highlight, middle values and shadows should be represented.

Wednesday -
Students should research and select two artists that they would be interesting in completing a research paper and presentation on. Details for requirements will be presented in class next week. Artists can be deceased or contemporary, but must be visual artists (not writers or musicians) and must have some level of notoriety or fame. Names of artists are due Friday.

All work due Friday 11/4/2011.

Monday - students are assigned three blind contour drawings of shoes, see previous lessons for reference.
Wednesday - students are assigned two value studies in high contrast, see value studies of spheres for reference.

10/17/2011 Sketchbook Homework

Monday's assignment: Students complete one fall landscape that represents the aerial perspective techniques learned during the project, i.e. reduction in size of objects, moving objects closer to horizon line, and/or lightening color of objects that recede.

Wednesday's assignment: Students complete one value study of an objects resting on a table, must include the shadows on the table surface.
